At San Fresco Wharf, Rithy spent several years pressed against the barricade at The Plank, never missing a Doom Brûlée set. While he wasn’t a trained musician, he was a whiz with code and cables and cobbled together a DIY kit built from pad triggers, loopers, and refurbished laptops. When the band’s drummer had a falling out and open tryouts were announced, Rithy showed up with a rattling road case and a folder of custom beats.
